Downdraft is to powerful

I've used my new for a few months now and this is my review. It was a replacement of a Jenn air cooktop w/downdraft that I loved. Several problems with this one. 1. the downdraft even on low sucks the burner flame away from the pot making it impossible to use. 2. my old cooktop had removable pans that were around the burner, one on each side, separated by the downdraft in the middle. these could be taken off after cooking and either put in the dishwasher or sink to be cleaned. This replacement is 1 solid piece that can't be removed, which makes it so much harder to clean. 3.Also if using the downdraft, the flame is flapping back and forth causing the electric polite to try and light the burner that's already lit.

The good and the bad

We purchased this to replace our 15 year old gas downdraft JennAir. The fan on this model is 10 times better than our old model but that also makes cooking on this model 10 times more difficult. The fan sucks the flame, so it doesn™€™t matter if the fan is on low and the large burner is on high, your eggs aren™€™t going to scramble until you turn the fan off altogether. I would return this in a heartbeat if there were another downdraft option that would have fit exactly in place of our old JennAir model. Although it didn™€™t fit exactly, as the downdraft fan was slightly more off to the side so our ducting had to be modified for this model. Our old model had a flat glass base with burners on top and smooth easily wipeable grates and removable knobs for easy cleaning. I didn™€™t realize this model has a deep indented black metal base with rough grates and the knobs don™€™t appear to be removable for cleaning. The burners lift completely off for easy cleaning, but the black metal is not easy to wipe clean. It takes several rounds of Method all-purpose degreasing cleaning spray and wiping to get it mostly streak free. This is not the cooktop for people like us who cook all the time.

Island downdraft cooktops are rare and our prior Jennair cooktop's valve failed after 30 years and no replacements are available now. It had the same counter top opening, but extended farther down into the island so some cabinetry chopping was needed. It took 6 hours to complete the whole thing.

I bought this cooktop for the down-draft ventilation capacity. What we have found is that the down-draft fan pulls the burner flame sideways, so it doesn't actually work very well. I have to turn the setting up to high to deliver any heat. This is a big design flaw. Super disappointing that it doesn't work as advertized. Don't buy this.

The new one has two large burners rather than one and a special melting option for the smallest burner. Downdraft motor I™€™d quieter and the fan doesn™€™t pull at the flames quite as much. 30™€ JX3™ Gas Downdraft Cooktop

Didn't have much choice to select from since my 20-year-old GE profile cooktop with the down draft was done. It fit fine in the rough in opening even though it was a litter bigger than the recommended cutout opening. Works ok. The only problem is the fan for the down draft. it seems to be more powerful than the original, sucks the flame out at low settings. I tried several adjustments, kind of have it right. Install was easy. Also cleaned up the original installation that the clown collaged contractors did, 20 years ago.What a mess.

Solid downdraft stove

We replaced our 34 year old jenn air downdraft gas cooktop with this one. Noticeably more power out of the burners. Love that there is 3 settings on the fan. The fan of course pulls the flames towards the vent, but with the whole cooktop having the continuous grill, you can just shift the pan over a little for even heat.

I am very pleased with the cooktop. My only suggestion would be to have the higher units on the same side so when I use a griddle or grill pan it is easier to have even heat. I also have trouble getting a low heat to maintain a slow simmer.

Welcome to the 21st Century...great cooktop.

We moved into our houze in late 1997 and discovered that it had JennAir cooktop which had been installed in 1980. This was our first experience cooking on a gas cooktop. The left two burners were kind of wierd, as the old cooktop was set up to use a griddle on that side. The griddle was seldom used and we eventually ditched it and began using all four burners in tgeusual manner. Butthose twi left-side burners were always too hotfor the task, and even on "low" were notreally suitable for everday cooking We recently decided to replace it...for a down draft cooktop our choices were limited to the new JennAir, or one made by General Electric. We chose the JennAir. It fit the old cutout with little effort and looks great. The best thing, however, is that all four burners are useful, but nore importantly, cooking on this new cooktop is a pleasure. The burners are truly infinitely variable, and finding just the right het is quick and easy. Cleanup is a breeze and it looks great in its new bome.

Newly Purchased Jenn Air Downdraft

We bought this Jenn Air about two weeks ago, based on reviews and looks. It replaced an old electric countertop downdraft. Installation was pretty easy but beware the downdraft might not line up with the old tubing. We had to get an AC Sheetmetal guy to make a small box to fit the offset and different sizes, which he did in a couple of days. Other than that, we are pretty happy. Another review indicates that the marking below the knobs comes off if you clean too hard. We will keep an eye on this. It came with two metal straps to attached under the countertop, but it didn't, or I couldn't find where to mount them to the actual underside of the stovetop to keep it from moving. They should have had a small, raised mount under there to attached to the stove, then screwed or glued the other end to the underside of the counter top. We are happy overall and buy again.

Best option when overhead venting is not available

Works about as expected. Not as effective as an overhead unit, but the best alternative for the situation. We mostly use the exhaust on the lowest speed, and wouldn't mind if a lower speed was available. The exhaust seems to siphon some of the heat away from the cookware.

Solid gas cooktop

Had the cooktop for a couple of weeks. Literature could be more accurate as to the burner parts and locations. Some kind of preinstalled foam or rubber seal so that it doesn't rest directly on granite (stuff can get caught in crack and it is able to move around) but I was able to install by myself except for gas line. Already mentioned by others but even on low the downdraft fan pulls flame away from cooking surface but otherwise my wife loves the change from electric to gas

Great except for knobs

We™€™ve been using this for about a month. It replaced a model that was 25 years old. Can™€™t believe how much more powerful the heat is. Only complaint is the knobs. Wish they were ridged instead of smooth and I wish the indicator was more obvious. I™€™m 5™€™2™€™€ and struggle to see the indicator. Husband is 6™€™5™€ and has no problem. Guess he™€™ll be doing most of the cooking.

Good Cooktop but dimensions changed

The cooktop replaced a 22 year old version. There are not too many choices for downdraft versions. The new one is a definite upgrade. Sealed burners, higher capacity, metal knobs, and better fan. Performance has been fine. The main issue is that the inner dimensions changed slightly from the older one. So if you are retrofitting in an existing cutout in countertop, it could be an issue. I had to put half-inch spacers in front and back to prevent sliding. The fan duct was increased to 6 inch so you may have to revise some ductwork.

We needed to replace our previous JennAir downdraft cooktop. This was really the only option considering the space and need for a downdraft. Due to the inability to get the part to repair the previous small burner, we had to replace. Quite disappointed that simmering takes some trick. Had to use the Melt burner cover and will keep that on permanently. All the burners cook very hot (hard boil) even when at a very low level. Other than that, which to me is an important consideration, it so far seems easy to clean.

We bought this cooktop to replace our old Jenair one. We actually looked up the model of our old one and we™€™re directed to this one. It fit perfectly in the existing space. We did not have to change a thing, just a longer hose for the down draft. I just love it. Cooks well, easily removed grates for cleaning. Just the best.

Awesome Quality and Control

This redesign of a downdraft cooktop by JennAir and Whirlpool is fantastic compared to the JennAir I™€™ve lived with designed by Maytag years ago. The controls are spot on and the grates are perfect for cooking and it™€™s style is perfect.

Fan at its lowest setting is too powerful

At its lowest setting fan is loud and too powerful to significantly suck the flames that the fire shifts. It would be okay on high power but at min speed its hurting the cooking process

Replaced very old Jenn-air with current model

We purchased an older home with an older Jenn-Air gas cooktop. The cooktop had seen better days and was clearly an older model. We've since replaced it with the current version and could not be happier with it. First of all, it looks great and much more modern. It is easier to clean and the knob functions have been re-engineered and are easy to work and more intuitive. The downdraft is also more powerful while being quieter. We would certainly recommend it to anyone.
